A conservative wimp with an ego to grind
If you missed my post yesterday, I posted an unaltered thread of comments from freerepublic.com, a right wing blog that on one if its threads is inciting the assassination of our sitting president.
For our president's safety, for the good of our country and for my own safety I copied the html for the thread and then called the Secret Service.
I got lots of hits yesterday and among them were some from a link posted on that right wing blog. I was curious to know how the people on FR had a link to my blog, since I had not directly linked to them (although I did leave the embedded links intact--I began to notice click, after click, after click from FR and knew it was more than backlinks).
It happens that the person who linked my blog to freerepublic.com was a commenter I came across on another blog who didn't agree with me and treated the host of the blog and others commenting there with a lot of froth and disrespect.
That person then went to FR and accused me of taking the comments on FR out of context.
Here's how you know I did not.
For example, take this first comment:
Free Republic Browse · Search | News/Activism Topics · Post Article |
We need to be perfectly clear that by “stopping” him we mean using political means to stop his political agenda.
This comment is to Jeff Head from Petronius Maximus. Notice that before the date and time stamp there is a number "6" underlined. That is the post's numerical position in the thread. This then is the sixth comment. In the very last line of this time/date stamp, the reply stamp is given. This comment replies "To 1" the first comment on the list.
Now look at this comment:
Political means are covered by The Three Boxes:
The soap box
The ballot box
The cartridge box
When all else fails, vote from the rooftops. (Somebody else will have to post the appropriate picture.) [emphasis in the original]
Then here's the picture someone posted, with it's stamped information:
A *direct* response to cayuga's comment 41 by Eaker. Check the embedded links; it's all there, unless they took it down.

Well, that was scarier than hell! We know these people exist, and I worry about our president, but actually seeing a nazi-looking nutcase with a gun and that shirt makes it feel way too real!
Thanks for putting me on your blogroll!...I always love reading your comments, so I'll visit more often...
Funny how even criticizing the president is unpatriotic when a Republican's in office, but when a Democrat's in office...whew...
Its all big talk til they realize that people are paying attention.
I knew that if we elected either Hillary or Obama as a president, that both would be under increased threat from attempts on their life by Domestic Terrorists. Both are minorities who have busted the glass gender and color ceiling and both are Democrats who do not believe in rule by divine right, or dominionism, or in the American version of British Israelism.
You know they don't believe its funny or appropriate to joke or comment about bombs in airports--this is pretty much the same in terms of everyday comportment.
I've had 120 hits since ten AM from a gun blog, where someone posted about my blog today.
Only *one* comment from them to my post... the silence speaks volumes.
My post was not about guns. I cannot understand why gun-clingers (the tighty-righty types, not normal gun owners) get so riled when anyone just merely mentions a gun?
And if someone talks about someone using a gun to kill elected officials, they are automatically branded anti-gun.
No.... I'm anti-assassinating-elected-officials.
No.... I'm anti-assassinating-elected-officials.
Which is why your blog name references the Gunpowder Plot to assassinate virtually the entire elected House of Commons in 1605?
Perhaps you actually mean to celebrate the King's Men who stopped Fawkes, but that generally isn't the intent for those who use it.
Phelps:
The Houses of Parliament in 1605 were controlled by Catholic religious interests and the aristocracy. They were hardly put in office by fair elections.
Fawkes was right to rebel against theocracy and classism, and those who sought to control others through fear.
So, you support assassinating elected officials when you think they they govern with the wrong philosophy?
You're getting in a big tissy about a couple folks merely talking about revolution (not overtly threatening anyone, not planning an attack, just discussing the historical concept) Yet you have the nerve to call THEM wimps?!
Amazing. I thought dissent was patriotic? I guess not if they choose to criticize "The One"
And yes, given your blog name and your picture of "V" the fact that you've complained about this and called the secret service is just dripping with delicious irony.
Well, I'm making this comment even though I know that you'll delete it since it would appear that you won't allow dissenting opinions (which is what you made clear on the original post). What exactly makes me a coward in your opinion? If I were to suggest that we get together and have a coffee and a reasonable conversation in person, your paranoia would take hold and you'd call me a terrorist or a stalker. No, I am not the coward.
Interesting spin you put on the whole situation. The truth is, you were very disrespectful to me throughout that entire conversation at willpen's blog, and I didn't lose my head with you one bit. Oh yes, I gave back a tiny bit of what I'd already been getting toward the end, but why can't you handle that when you can so freely dish it out?
In fact, it's interesting that one of willpen's regulars came after all that and left a comment saying almost exactly what I did.
I didn't accuse you of anything over at the freeper blog. I just thought the people might be interested to hear what was being said about them. Are you such a coward that you hoped they wouldn't find out you were talking about them?
I guess so.
And what is really amazing is what Dr Jay SW said. It was the national way of life to criticize Bush for years, but any criticism of Obama is considered racist, unjust, stupid, and now terrorism.
You may not want to believe it, but there are some people in this country who are concerned at the direction we are heading. And they are every bit as much an American as you are.
I also think that it's interesting that our entire disagreement at willpen's was whether or not threatening comments were made about Bush during his presidency. You proved me right yesterday when you admitted that the graphic of the guy with the gun actually originated on left wing blogs about Bush. So somebody over there used the same graphic that some lefties did (and we have to assume that some lefties made some kind of violent comments to go with the graphic originally).
I already told you that I don't advocate violence in any form. Against any president.
Even one that I didn't vote for.
And yes, interesting irony when we look at your blog name.
Watch out Wow, she'll probably start deleting comments en masse soon.
That seems to be the way she and catherine handle criticism or dissenting opinions.
And the funny thing is, I'm as harmless and gentle as a lamb.
Wow; Would you please show me in this post where I call you a coward?
And if I recall correctly, your comment on FR accused me of taking these comments "out of context".
As far as me deleting comments, I have in the entire history of this blog deleted *one* comment.
Yesterday's post was not up for debate. Someone wrote about a sniper showing her/his vote with a gun and I merely shone a light on it.
It's my right as an American to protest threats of violence to our president.
As far as my affinity for "V" and the snarky comments being left about that: you are way off topic.
I don't see anything wrong with wanting our president to be safe. If I see a threat, you bet your sweet patooties I am going to report it.
I am not going to slink away and hide my head in the sand because some people can't respect the law.
And for those of you commenting--have I deleted one of you?
Nope... and I won't as long as you don't start with the ad hominem attacks and keep it on topic.
"As far as my affinity for "V" and the snarky comments being left about that: you are way off topic."
No, it's not off-topic. It accurately highlights your blatant hypocrisy. It's horribly ironic and quite funny given your reaction.
Oh, skyewriter, please don't be disingenuous. I get your blog in an rss reader and you edited it since it went there. I have the proof that you called me a coward, compared me to a 5 year old, said I was lying, and told me to go f*** myself.
As far as accusing you of anything? I didn't. Here's what I said:
Kind of seems to me that they are taking it out of context...
"Kind of seems to me" is hardly an accusation.
Wow: yes, I had written that in my first draft and changed it 30 seconds later after rethinking it. In fact, my stats report show you were among maybe three people who saw it before I changed my mind.
Sometimes taking the high road is the better way and the revision is the one I chose to publish and leave.
For any offense I apologize. But don't come to MY blog and tell me you didn't instigate a flood of hits based on a loose assumption that I was somehow misrepresenting the comments from free republic.
Were you the one who emailed saysuncle, too?
In fact, my stats report show you were among maybe three people who saw it before I changed my mind.
I told you, I saw it in an rss reader, so those stats don't reflect my visit.
...instigate a flood of hits...
You were the one who posted about them. In the bloggy world, we don't post inflammatory stuff if we don't want visits.
I don't know anyone named 'saysuncle', so no, it wasn't me.
I apologized, wow.
I was pissed, wrote something rash, and changed my mind.
That's it.
As far as my affinity for "V" and the snarky comments being left about that: you are way off topic.

It seems like you have a very, very light grip on the Gunpowder Plot. It was, and is, High Treason. A religious fanatic planned the blow up the most democratically elected government in existence at the time.
So, like the old joke, we know what kind of person you are. Now we are just haggling over the price. It's OK. I think that sometimes, the People have no other retreat but to violence too. You just get squishy when you like the guy that other people find intolerable.
And we both agree that there is no justification for any violence against the president right now. I'm not a sage and I don't know how Obama will end his presidency (any more than I did with Bush) but I pray that he ends it by being defeated in the November 2012 election and quietly fading back to Chicago or Moscow or wherever he calls home.
...actually seeing a nazi-looking nutcase with a gun and that shirt makes it feel way too real!
Interesting though how that picture actually originated on lefty blogs about Bush, isn't it?
Please, wow, if you are going to quote someone in the comments, please use their screen name so the flame doesn't get directed at me.
All I ask is that you cite your sources (it's the writing teacher in me).
Yes ma'am!!
:salutes:

You're expecting flames?
My inexperience with the virtual world is showing...
As someone pointed out on another blog that has been directing traffic here today, I am new to this whole world of blogging and blogs. You can call me Gladys :).
I had never heard of DU (whatever that stands for; I know it's a lefty blog) or Freep (see I'm getting the lingo) until three days ago.
I was appalled by that picture and it made me realize that the hate and anger in this country is long and deep when I wrote that it was originated by a lefty source.
Yes, I am experiencing flames. Is that even the right word?
I wrote this to a new friend here on this blog last week (hiya DW); I do think underneath everything, we have a lot more in common than we realize.
DU is Democratic Underground. And I didn't know what a FReeper was until yesterday myself, since I'd never been to the Free Republic site before. I originally thought freeper was a slam of some sort, until I saw their front page.
LOL
I'm pretty appalled at the picture too, no matter where it originated or how it's used.
