Senate may have a new Democrat

Seems Arlen Specter (R-PA) will be switching teams in the Senate.

The GOP must be freaking out right now, especially considering the MN election results.

However, the Grand Old Party of Obstruction will likely hang up that court decision for as long as it can.

After all, who cares about what's going on in the country and the people whom these folks represent?

It's all about who wins.

Sad.

But exciting about Specter. I had a feeling this might happen after his bout with cancer and the opening of his eyes to the promise of stem-cell research.

This is gonna piss-off a whole bunch of the batshit crazy conservatards. The religious right wackos should be going ape-shit about now.

It's nice to live in a state with two Democratic senators again...especially since, as recently as two and a half years ago, Pennsylvania had both a moderate Republican senator (Specter) and a pure evil religious reich senator (Santorum). I expect I'll vote against him in the Democratic primary in a year or so, but, for now, Arlen's the man....

I saw that and I thought of you instantly! They don't allow anyone who thinks or acts independently and doesn't want to steal from the poor, so I'm surprised it took him this long...

I am so flattered, Riot Kitty!

Call me an optimist, but I think the Ivory Towers inside the Beltway are starting to show signs of stress.

Sometimes it takes walking in someone else's shoes to make us change our hearts and minds. When Specter got cancer, and heard that stem-cells could potentially save his life, he changed his position faster than light.

Of course, the GOP will jump all over him for being a hypocrite. But perhaps a brush with mortality made him realize how precious time is-- and he's not going to waste another minute pretending.

Go Arlen. I think it was Michael Steele threatening him that he will not receive funds from the RNC and his crazy party who promised revenge based on his support for the stimulus bill. He did the right thing and now he will be given respect from a party who actually allows dissent. What a concept!
