To My Knowledge: One Does Not Equal Fifty

Last time I checked, 1 in 100 equals 1%.

Not exactly revolutionary. Nor major. Just... you, know. One.

So why is the right collectively circle-jerking over *one* senate seat? One?

Really?

My dare to the GOP; go ahead and filibuster.

Do it.

Reconciliation has happened more often in recent history than the GOP cares to recall.

A big one that cut Medicaid funding: Bush's 2005 "Deficit Reduction" bill.

Yeah, when the going gets tough, cut off the poorest laborers in the nation.

Why not add a side of health care coverage denial with that? It's low-cal and oh-so-cost-effective.

When the flu season fires up and those who cannot afford to take sick days because they have no health care (or sick days) go to work sick and prepare food, or clean hotel rooms, or drive cabs, or harvest produce, and use public transportation... then will that *one* vote really matter?

I suppose when you are down, every scrap of a mote of a hint of a lint of a whiff of a win counts.

Go ahead.

Stick with that 1%... or 41%... still not a majority. But I suppose when you have a huge group of pusspusses like the Dems, one really does equal fifty.

Good Gods I hear that. What is up with this Limp Dick Policy from the Dems. OMG, you would think that they get squeamish at the sight of their own blood or something. And you know, I wonder if that doesn't inspire the Republicons to be even more bloodthirsty. Like the Dem's roll over and show your belly isn't taken as permission to finish gutting the American dream just because no one bothered to stand up to a bunch of bullies.

Jeez I do it all the time and I am but a housewife.

Oh Skye...you're back! I love reading you when you give 'em heck! :)

Well said! I hate all of the puffery around one election. BTW, miss you on my blog!

One thing that's not being said...but that really should've been said for the past fourteen months or so...is that the Democrats never had a 60 vote "supermajority." Joe Lieberman spoke at the Republican Convention for chrissake, and was apparently John McCain's personal choice for VP...and people wonder why the Dems have had to work so hard to get him to vote with them?

What really makes the Dems pathetic is this: think about Ronald Reagan tearing down stuff the Dems had spent fifty years building up, or George W. Bush dismantling the Bill of Rights. Did they have "supermajorities"? Not even close. And look what happened the last time the Democrats used the filibuster--the Republicans threatened the "nuclear option" and the Dems basically agreed not to filibuster any judicial nominee to the left of Francisco Franco.

And with the Dems in power? New senator Brown said they'd "pay dearly" if they tried to push healthcare through before he was seated...and the 59 (really 58) Dem majority caved....

They sure did make a big deal of that election. I just wish that some of the republican party would pull their heads out of their asses long enough to realize that the current health care system sucks. That's probably too much to ask.

Why do the Dems cave even from positions of power? I just do not understand it, never have, never will. Makes me want to scream and throw things.

I like what Aliceson said about the rethugs....

....and I'll add that the pansies who call themselves Democrats best pull their heads outta their asses and find their balls....if they still have any.

Great to have you back!

It makes no sense to me why the loss of one Senate seat spells doom for the Dems. More and more, I think the truth of the matter is that they never had any intention of doing the right thing with Health Care. Or DADT. Or DOMA. If they did, they'd have passed something resembling legislation by now.

It sucks. Hard core.

I hear they have testicular implants. Maybe the dems want to get a pair. It makes me sick watching them act like the Republican's bitches. Seriously, we need to get all these bastards out of office and elect people who aren't beholden to corporate interests and have some cajones to follow through with things, like upholding the Constitution and ensuring everyone has equal rights under the Law. Unfortunately, that ain't happening because in this country, we have a "super majority"... of unthinking chattel.
