Here's what I think...

I hope the gun-mob *finally* gets the meaning behind the words:

*I am not trying to reach you; you are NOT my target audience".

Please.

Try to use your word comprehension skills and read--carefully.

When you begin a comment with an *insult*-- you get deleted. Immediately. I don't even bother with the rest of your comment.

I am bored silly reading how closed minded I am; I am exhausted by reading how I don't want to listen.

You. know. nothing. about. me.

Why is it that because I am getting my Ph.D. some of you are so pissed off that you are beside yourselves?

[That's a rhetorical question, by the way.]

Bitter. Cowardly. Bullies. That's my impression of (most of) you and I don't think anything any of you could write will change my mind about my impressions of you.

You are hazards to your own cause.

And you fit the stereotype of your type to-a-capital-T. Just as I am sure you think of me from four posts out of over 160.

Take your webrage elsewhere.

*Yawn*

I'm done.

UPDATE: Also, starting your comment with "you probably won't post this" relegates your comments directly to the ether. A childish preface, with a dash of an infantile dare for me *to* publish it.

If you don't mind me asking.

You asked for proof of Obama's anti-gun stance.

I understand not publishing / deleting comments that were threatening or insulting. It IS your blog. But why not let the reasonable comments through and not delete the post?

I know you got plenty of comments from folks that calmly, rationally, and with evidence gave you exactly what you asked for.

Perhaps you just didn't like the answer?

I am *wading* through a sea of information I have received.

May I please have time to read it?

I am finishing a book (my diss), a journal article, and observing teachers at the moment and don't have loads of free time to follow each link people provide at the instant they provide them.

I am trying to get to the rational comments. I can take only so many insults before I close the window and come back later to start reading again.

And yes, I removed the post.

Thanks for the link on your blog and all of the crazies it has drawn here once again...

Hi, skyewriter.
Sorry to read about your MIL.

I have read through your archives and the comments. Wow. You certainly fought a tough fight all on your own. You against the mob. You definitely got ganged up on.

I wish I had known about your blog when the insults started flying in that one post.

I didn't get a chance to comment on the post you removed, but I did read it a few days ago. Thank you for the links.

Take care and keep em coming!

Well you are reaching us, and certainly your actions here speak far louder than your words.

Also nice touch that you condemn us for "insults" (not sure the extent of those as you moderate your comments) but you seem to be fairly free with the insults yourself.

You're an interesting lady!

Skye, let me remind you that Mr. Mike Wet behind the ears I think I am a lawyer, but oh I am a 22 year old law clerk, but I know better than all of you.

1. Abused you
2. Abused me
3. I saw that when they went back to their blogs Mike W said I was crazy
4. Even when they appear rational, it is to manipulate because I read their blogs when I was getting pinged that their purpose in coming to your blog and mine is to (A) abuse and (B) tell your audience what to believe and not to have a dialogue.

5. Talking points and not listening. That is what they are about. They want toi get their nessage and and when they realize they have blown their cover they get beliigerent, bellicose, obnoxious and abusive. Then they start the old "you're not allowing free speech" crap when they are really mobbing your blog (and mine) to silence our voices. That is why they are not interested in a dilogue. They want to silence our speech and promote theirs.

The rest is just BS from an abusive little boy with way too much time on his hands. When he grows up and gets responsibilities one day, if ever, he'll get that you just don't mob someone's blog with over 30 comments in one day and make repeated demands on the author to prove something instantly.

I'll leave you with one of Mike W's infamous quotes that caused more people to send me email than he will ever know since they were so disgusted with his behavior"

-Jonolan - Thanks for the laugh.

* Imagines a paranoid Catherine calling the cops, paranoid, and screaming about how someone threatened to shoot her from the rooftops.* ….

Reply: Just goes to show how very little you know about me and now we can add sexist to your repertoire.

Congrats Mike W, you single handedly turned people off to the NRA, guns and gun bloggers. Excellent job!

I'm here because I heard you wanted to know why people think Obama is anti-gun. However, when I got here, I found that the link pointed to a post that didn't exist. I figured it was an error, but it sounds like you deleted the post. Why do that?

skyewriter April 14, 2009 at 9:31 PM

People linked to my blog post from a few days ago. I was out of town for a serious family shituation and came home to over 60 crappy comments from people calling me stupid, retard and even one who used the "c" word.

Unacceptable in my book. I will not publish those comments that abuse me and since there were so many that were abusive, I deleted the post to save myself some time and energy.

I also took the post down because I was getting the same kind of BS from a lot of people that I got a month ago when I posted about some online chatter to "vote from the rooftops".

I refuse to waste my online time, which I have little of as a graduate student, dealing with irrational people.

Just a blanket comment to those who left comments to the other post: you are the first people to shout about being allowed to defend yourselves. But, when anyone else decides to do it, they are branded [insert malicious smear here].

Like I wrote: I. am. done.

Skyewriter, I have to say that you are a more corageous woman than I. The reaction you received is one of the many reasons I try to avoid political discussions. I give you so much credit and look up to you. I enjoy your blog and learn so much from it. I wanted to take a moment to let you know that I appreciate you even if I don't comment often. Bravo!

skyewriter April 14, 2009 at 10:48 PM

Thanks, Shady Lady.

I appreciate your support.

I have been following your back issue. Sorry I haven't commented--but I am reading and following along!

Glad to know things are working out.

Cheers!

Hi Skye,
I am sorry that you have to deal with all that negativity. But that is why there is a delete feature on comments.
I received my first really nasty comment on my Tango blog of all places, and when I didn't publish it, I got a nastier comment about not publishing his comment! I just deleted. It felt good.
As far as I am concerned, the blog is mine and am responsible for the content and my opinions. If people cannot make a reasonable comment voicing a difference of opinion in a non abusive way, then they get deleted. End of story. Especially if they use bogus names and e-mails.
Keep up the good work and don't let the bastards get you down. x

It's your blog, you can do whatever the hell you want with it. Geez, why can't people get that through their heads without getting all pissy about it? LOL

Moderation is needed in lots of places, not just in blog comments. As both a liberal and a gun owner I must say that I have never been much of a fan of the NRA leadership. I'm a gun owner, not a gun nut. Too often NRA reactions to serious and pertinent questions about gun owenership is pure kneejerk reactionism designed to keep people scared that ANY type of regulation on ANY kind of breech loaded projectile weapon is a slippery slope on the path down to universal abolition of gun ownership. Until we can have a serious national debate on the subject then the people who shouldn't be within a living mile of a gun will still be able to get one. Current laws need to be more vigorously enforced and we need to close the legal loopholes that allow anyone and everyone to get a gun. We have a great privilege in the 2nd Amendment so we need to start being a bit more responsible with it.
